I'm in my third year of photography studies through The Portrait System, which teaches both the skills of portraiture and the business of photography. I'm studying to become the best New Hampshire family and newborn photographer that I can be. Each year, photographers are invited to submit their portraits to the Portrait Masters Awards, where a panel of 5 internationally-renowned photographers selected by The Portrait System judge and score images. A final score is determined by an average of those five scores. Judging is based on the following criteria:  expression, connection, styling, composition, posing, lighting, technique & presentation, post-production, focus, and narrative/emotive response. Images that receive a score of 70 or higher have met professional standards and receive either a bronze, bronze with distinction, silver, or gold merit. This award round had 15 categories.
I'm very proud to share that the image that I entered into this January competition received a bronze merit. The photo was submitted to the Documentary Portrait category, which is for entries that celebrate the style of documenting a real living subject in their real environment, in an honest way. A big thank you to my littlest for being my amazing subject this round.Â
