I've been continuing my photography studies through The Portrait System, which teaches both the skills of portraiture and the business of photography. Each year, photographers are invited to submit their portraits to the Portrait Masters Awards, where a panel of 5 internationally-renowned photographers selected by The Portrait System judge and score images. A final score is determined by an average of those five scores. Judging is based on the following criteria: expression, connection, styling, composition, posing, lighting, technique & presentation, post-production, focus, and narrative/emotive response. Images that receive a score of 70 or higher have met professional standards and receive either a bronze, bronze with distinction, silver, or gold merit. This award round had over 4800 submissions into 14 categories.
I'm very proud to share that the two images that I entered into this January competition each received bronze merit. Both photos were submitted to the Documentary Portrait category, which is for entries that celebrate the style of documenting a real living subject in their real environment, in an honest way. My portrait of my youngest at the pediatrician placed 14th for the category. A big thank you to my husband and littlest for being my amazing subjects!
