Six-Month Session Prep Guide

Six-Month Session Prep Guide - six month old in striped romper sitting in grass

Six months is such a fun age as your baby is developing their personality! This milestone session, also known as the “sitter session," is one of my favorites. If they are sitting, we capture that. If they aren’t sitting, that’s okay too. We’ll get them on their bellies, on their backs, pushing up, and rolling around if they are rolling.

Thank you for choosing Laurie LaPorte Photography, your New Hampshire family photographer. Here’s a six-month session prep guide to help you prepare for your baby’s six-month photos.

Outdoor sessions are scheduled near sunset or early in the morning for the best lighting, and we will work together to find the perfect time for your shoot. Please take a moment to review the following information as you prepare for our session. I am excited to work with you and your little one!

Wardrobe

  • Rompers, overalls, and bubbles are great for this age! These options are comfortable and stay in place for photos, whether they are sitting or rolling around.

  • Soft, neutral solid colors photograph well but don't shy away from subtle patterns. Avoid logos, neon, and graphics that can distract from Baby’s face.

  • Texture adds dimension and visual interest to your baby’s portraits, especially in outdoor settings where natural light plays a significant role. A lace ruffle, knit, muslin, or waffle weave are texture examples for Baby.

  • No need for shoes or tights - those little piggies are too adorable to cover up!

  • Shops with great six-month outfits: Old Navy, Zara Baby, Jamie Kay, Quincy Mae

Props and Personal Items

  • With outdoor baby sessions, the baby will be placed on a blanket on the ground. This blanket will be provided for each session, but let me know if you have a special blanket you’d like to be considered.

  • Does Baby have a favorite toy or lovey? We can work those into photos, too. You’ll look back fondly at these items your baby loves.

Location Selection

  • I have several outdoor spaces for photos. If you have a special location in mind, let me know!

Day of the Shoot

  • Make sure Baby is well-rested and fed before their session time to ensure some great smiles.

  • Bring a snack just in case, but hopefully, that won’t be needed.

  • An extra outfit is always helpful since we know the worst happens when no backup is in your bag.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need further assistance. I'm excited to capture this milestone with you!
