An In-Home Newborn Session Checklist to Help You Prepare for Your Photography Session

When trying to prepare for photos, this in-home newborn session checklist will help! Everyone loves a checklist, and when there is little you can control in terms of a brand-new baby, these lists can be comforting.

Here are a few ways you can prepare for your in-home newborn photography session.

🔲 Schedule the session during the baby's first two weeks to capture those precious early moments. They change so much and so quickly.

🔲 Choose a comfortable and well-lit area in your home for the photoshoot. Couches and beds are ideal for your comfort.

🔲 Keep the room warm to ensure the baby's comfort during the session.

🔲 Have a few favorite simple swaddles on hand for the photographer to use in the photos.

🔲 Dress baby in simple, neutral-colored clothing to keep the focus on their sweet face. Avoid dresses or loose clothing.

🔲 Make sure the baby is well-fed and well-rested before the session to help them stay calm and content.

🔲 Have a pacifier, bottle, or breastfeeding pillow on hand to help soothe the baby if needed during the session. We will always take a break if the baby needs it - they lead the session.

🔲 Prepare big siblings by telling them a friend is coming by to take some photos. Have small, clean snacks on hand if they need some motivation to give the baby some attention.

🔲 Clear clutter from the area where the photos will be taken to create a clean, uncluttered background. As the photographer, I will help with this - so, don't worry if you miss this checklist item! (This is always something you can ask of visiting family who are looking to help in some way)

🔲 Consider any specific shots you want to capture and communicate these with the photographer beforehand.

🔲 Relax and enjoy the session! Remember, the most important thing is capturing these special moments with the new addition to your family.
