Thank you for choosing Laurie LaPorte Photography, your New Hampshire family and newborn photographer! I am truly grateful for the opportunity to capture beautiful family moments with you. My goal is to create not just photos, but memories that will last a lifetime. Here is a family session guide to help as you prepare for our photoshoot. My photography style is "lifestyle", focusing on genuine interactions and authentic moments. While I will aim for that perfect posed shot, I love capturing families in their natural element - playing, laughing, and loving each other. During our session, I will guide you into poses that showcase your family's unique bond and personalities. I will encourage playful interactions to capture those candid, heartfelt moments.
Sessions are scheduled near sunset for the best lighting, and we will work together to find the perfect time for your shoot. Take a moment to review the following information as you prepare for our session. I am excited to meet you and your loved ones!

Moms
On the day of our session, it's completely normal to feel a bit nervous. I know that I have experienced the same anxiety leading up to my family’s sessions because we all want everything to go perfectly. I understand the effort and planning that goes into preparing for the session. All you need to do is be yourself, enjoy the moment, and focus on your family. If there is anything that needs adjusting, I will take care of it. Just be present and enjoy the experience!

Children
Preparing your children for our session in advance can help ease any nervousness they may have. Let them know about the fun activities we will be doing, such as playing games and telling jokes. It's helpful to talk about me as a friend to make them feel more comfortable. Encouraging natural smiles rather than forcing them to pose can lead to the best results. If needed, I may ask for your assistance in helping them relax during the session.
Offering a small treat or the promise of ice cream after the session can also be a great motivator. Just be sure to choose snacks that won't leave a mess on their faces (gummies, Tic Tacs, mini marshmallows, Cheerios).

Dads
Your partner may be feeling a bit hesitant about our upcoming photoshoot, which is completely understandable. They may already understand the significance of the session to you; try to reassure them that it will be a stress-free experience. My relaxed approach ensures that the session won't feel rigid or overwhelming. Let them know that they don't have to stand in front of the camera and smile the whole time - parents have just as much fun as the kids during the session.

Styling & Wardrobe
Coordinate, Don't Match: Gone are the days of everyone wearing identical outfits. Opt for coordinating colors instead, allowing each family member to showcase their style while maintaining a cohesive look. Choose a color palette with complementary tones that work well together. For instance, pair blush pink with sage green or baby blue with lavender for a visually pleasing ensemble.
Consider Neutral Anchors: Neutral tones like white, beige, tan, and gray are excellent anchors in your family photo outfits, providing balance and allowing the brighter spring colors to shine. Incorporate neutrals through base layers such as tops, bottoms, or outerwear, ensuring they complement the color palette without overpowering it.
Add a Pop of Color: Don't shy away from incorporating a pop of brighter color to add depth and visual interest to your photos. Consider accentuating the neutral hues with a bold accessory or layering piece, such as a statement necklace, scarf, or cardigan in a vibrant coral, turquoise, or sunny yellow.
Mind the Location: When selecting colors for your family's attire, consider the backdrop of your photoshoot location. If you're shooting amidst a field of wildflowers or in a lush garden, opt for softer, muted tones that complement the surroundings.
Don't Forget Texture: Texture adds dimension and visual interest to your family’s portraits, especially in outdoor settings where natural light plays a significant role. Mix and match fabrics with different textures, such as linen, cotton, lace, or chambray, to create depth and richness in your family's outfits without overpowering the chosen color scheme.
Consider Personal Preferences: Ultimately, the most important factor in selecting colors for family photos is ensuring everyone feels comfortable and confident in their attire. Consider each family member's style and preferences when choosing outfits, allowing them to express themselves while still adhering to the overall color palette.
Weather: Dress in layers so you can bundle or remove layers as needed to make sure everyone remains comfortable! Nobody is happy if they’re too hot or too cold.
Things to avoid: Neon colors and big logos might distract from your family’s connection.

Rescheduling:
Weather: I’ll be in touch if rain is forecasted, and we’ll determine if we want to chance it or reschedule.
Illness: It's tough for both you and your child when they are feeling unwell and unhappy. They definitely won't enjoy being in front of the camera in that state. If you notice that your child is not feeling well, please contact me immediately so we can reschedule for the next available date.
Tardiness: I understand that people run late, especially with young children. Please plan extra time to arrive on time. Sometimes I can accommodate tardiness, but I can’t always, so understand that you may lose some session time
Thank you for investing the time into your family’s photo session. Everything will go great, and you will love the photos we capture! Don't hesitate to get in touch with me with any questions.
